Wasteland

Why are wastelands so beautiful to us? Why do we find dystopian settings so compelling and post apocalyptic life to be an interesting fantasy?

----------------------------

We are drawn to these things because the idea of something new coming out of the dust. Like Adam brought to life from the dirt. The same reasoning behind the fact that flowers growing through the asphalt looks so appealing. It's nature going against the odds, simply because it needs to grow somewhere. The wild flowers do not care about how inhabitable its setting should be, if it can grow, it will.

Humans have their own wastelands, their own asphalt, inside of them. We use them as reasons for people not to love us. However, to someone in the world your wasteland is beautiful. Remember that you have survived 100% of your worst days and kept going against whatever odds you had. Everything you go through in life is either going to be a flower or asphalt in the wasteland inside your head, and eventually they will take over the asphalt in an array of wild flowers and greenery. The asphalt will not be gone, it will always be there as a basis for the life. I cannot promise it will stay that way. Maybe a wild fire will come along and burn it all back down or a gardener will come and uproot the weeds. But do not forget that people burn forests to help the land and gardeners weed to help the flowers.

Yours Truly,
     Abby
